Mali: Train The Trainers Workshop In Neonatal Resuscitation
In collaboration with the Mali Pediatric Association, National Council of Mid-wives, Gynaecology & Obstetrical department of Gabriel Toure Teaching Hospital in Bamako, and the Ministry of Hygiene & Public Health, the NNIA organised two Train the Trainers Seminar in Neonatal Resuscitation from 9 to 11 May for 21 doctors and 26 nurses and mid-wives.
Through the partnership with the Pediatric Association of Mali, the objective of this training was to generate potential resources to improve medical skills in neonatal care for the maximum of healthcare professional in the country.
The training focused on the three main challenges responsible for the high neonatal mortality rate in Mali (neonatal asphyxia, neonatal resuscitation and helping babies breathe), which is 40%, according to official statistics.
The course focused on the assessment of participants’ readiness to neonatal resuscitation through pre- and post-practical tests.
The post-test high scores were indicative of participants’ capabilities to train other healthcare providers, with objective of 250 healthcare providers to be trained before August 2017.
